The anecdotes of Victor Emmanuel in private life arevery numerous. We have space only for a few, but manyare told in his Life by G. S. Godkin. He rose early, and spent the first two hours of the dayin exercise. By the time most men begin to awake he wasready for a hard days work at his profession, as healways called his kingship. He was very hardy, and neverwore flannel, which may have been the cause of the chillwhich resulted in his death.
