Mayadin (Arabic: ميادين) is a city in eastern Syria. It is located at about Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found.. The Euphrates River flows through the town. On January 9, ISIS members were abducted. During the Syrian civil war, the town captured by ISIL[1] However, a local underground resistance movement has developed, and attacks on ISIL checkpoints and gunmen by more moderate Sunni fighters without identification have become more commonplace, as former rebel soldiers try to dislodge ISIL inside the city.[2] This has even forced ISIL to dig a 15 km trench around the city to keep unknown gunmen out, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.[3]
