Brighton Beach railway station is located on the Sandringham line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the south-eastern Melbourne suburb of Brighton Beach opening on 21 September 1861 as Beach, being renamed Brighton Beach on 1 January 1867.[1]
It was upgraded to a Premium Station on 20 November 1995.[2]
Platforms & services
Brighton Beach consists of an island format and a side platform. It is serviced by Metro Trains Sandringham line services travelling between Flinders Street and Sandringham.[3] Platform 1 & 2 (island platform) has a large brick building housing an enclosed waiting area, ticket facilities and toilets, while platform 3 has a smaller brick building. In 2011 a fence was erected on platform 2 to direct passengers to the first half of the train since there is a large gap between the second half of the train and the platform. This is due to platform 2 being on a sharp curve.
A rail yard is located adjacent to platform 1. This yard was originally used for stabling, but was converted to a siding for the VICERS project. Works started in 2010 to reinstate the stabling facilities at Brighton Beach Station and are now completed. Two trains are now stored overnight, that operate two early morning citybound services originating from Middle Brighton.
