Carlos Diego Loyzaga (born May 22, 1995) popularly known as Diego Loyzaga is a Filipino actor, model and VJ.[1][2]

Biography

Early life

Loyzaga was born in San Juan, Manila to actress Teresa Loyzaga and actor Cesar Montano. He has a brother named Joseph Dizon from his mother's former husband, businessman Arnold Dizon,;[3] and three sisters - Angelina, Samantha, and Francheska - from his father's marriage to Sunshine Cruz[4] and a brother named Christian Angelo Manhilot from his father's first wife.[5]

He is a grandson of Filipino basketball legend Carlos Loyzaga and a nephew of former PBA players Chito Loyzaga and Joey Loyzaga and actress Bing Loyzaga.[6]

In May 2000, Loyzaga, his mother, and brother Joseph moved to Sydney, Australia.[7]

Education

Before moving to Sydney, Loyzaga went to Marcellis School in Antipolo City for his pre-school education. After moving to Sydney, he studied at the St Aidan's Catholic School in Maroubra, Sydney and the John Forrest School in Perth.[8]

In 2011, after moving back to the Philippines to pursue an acting career, he enrolled and finished high school in O.B. Montessori Center, Inc. – Greenhills.[9][10]

Career

2011–2012: Early roles and short hiatus

On March 8, 2011, 15-year-old Diego Loyzaga signed a three-year exclusive contract with ABS-CBN.[1] In an interview, he said that going into showbiz was his personal choice and had nothing to do with his parents.[11] Diego became part of ABS-CBN’s top rating series Mara Clara reprising the role of the late Rico Yan, Derrick Gonzales.[8][12]

Loyzaga did several TV guesting including in the variety talk show, Gandang Gabi, Vice!, where he chaperoned Daniel Padilla and Neil Coleta.[13] In September 2011, he was casted in youth oriented drama series, Growing Up where he played Jason, the brother of Patrick.

Loyzaga was nominated as Amazing Male Newcomer in Yahoo! Awards Philippines in 2011.[14]

Whilst keeping up with his study, he also held various endorsements include the clothing brand, Bench labeled “Happy in Bench” with co-stars Julia Montes, Kathryn Bernardo and Albie Casino.

He took a break from show business to complete his secondary education in 2012.

2013–present: Comeback and new opportunities

In May 2013, Loyzaga returned onscreen in the Asia’s longest drama anthology, Maalaala Mo Kaya in the episode “Box” played the role Bruce.[15] The comeback acting talent of Loyzaga was received a good feedbacks from social medias wherein he ‘converse Tagalog flawless’-unlike his past projects halted in twang.[16]

Subsequently, he starred the fantasy-drama series Wansapanataym in the second installment of ‘Petra Paminta’ played the role as Sancho. He was paired to Julia Barretto.[17]

In July 2013, Loyzaga was initially signed for the major role in soap opera, Mirabella television series main casted by Julia Barretto;[18] however, he was later delegated to a supporting role.[19]

In September 2014, he played a supporting role in TV 5’s Wattpad Presents Mr. Popular meets Miss Nobody.[20] During the presscon of Wattpad Presents he said that he had no problems with working exclusively with TV 5 given the chance citing that for artists like him, network war is not relevant and his work is to portray the character well.

In January 2015, he was announced as one of three new VJ’s of MYX.[2] He can be watched at MYX shows My MYX, MYX Daily Top 10, Pinoy MYX, and Pop MYX.[21]

Still in January 2015, he guested as the young G (God) in hit daytime program Oh My G!,[22] and in February 2015, he joined the cast of TV series, Forevermore, which is top billed by Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano.[23]
