Summary

Exterior view of the South Gate Masonic Temple building and the grocery store occupying the bottom floor, Los Angeles, ca.1900
Photograph of the exterior view of the South Gate Masonic Temple building and the grocery store occupying the structure's bottom floor, Los Angeles, ca.1900. The two-story corner building features two wide pediments with decorative moldings -- one on each of the visible sides of the building. Large buttresses and pilasters, capped with Corinthian capitals, provide support for the walls. "Southgate Masonic Temple" is embossed under the left pediment. The cloth awning covering the sidewalk of the market reads: "Parke & Bradford Meats, groceries, Braddock - McCrea Co. Bake[...]s, ice cream, soda, [...] & confectionary". Stockpiles of wood can been seen behind the building next to house (right). Other legible signs include: "[...]st., [...]e works", "364", "for rent, for sale", "meats, poultry, eggs, cream", "Bakers & Confectioners", "delicatessen".
