Summary

Several companies of U.S. Navy recruits stand in formation alongside USS Blue Jacket, the mock-up training ship at the Naval Training Center Orlando, Florida (USA). USS Blue Jacket was a landlocked destroyer replica used to train recruits between 1968 and 1993. This photo was probably taken shortly after the base was opened in 1968, due to the work being done to complete the USS Blue Jacket, which lacks the finished paint scheme and hatches on the lower "gas chamber" (tear gas training room) openings, and lack of paving on the drill field (called the Grinder) which was paved in 1970. The jumper style of uniform being worn by the recruits also indicates this date range, as this style was replaced with the so called "CPO style" uniform in 1973.
