Summary
The present district of Sankt Wendel has a very complicated history. The district was divided in many small part, each of these parts belonged to a different territory. Therefore only the arms of the main territories are combined in the arms of the district. The blue lion is the lion of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/County_of_Veldenz" class="extiw" title="en:County of Veldenz">Counts of Veldenz</a>, the silver lion the lion of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nassau-Saarbr%C3%BCcken" class="extiw" title="en:Nassau-Saarbrücken">Nassau-Saarbrücken</a>. The colours red and gold in the escutcheon are taken from the arms of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorraine" class="extiw" title="en:Lorraine">Lorraine</a>. The fleur-de-lis is taken from the arms of the city of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sankt_Wendel" class="extiw" title="en:Sankt Wendel">Sankt Wendel</a>.
