History

Paul J. Hagerty High School opened in 2005 with a freshman class. A year previously, a competition was opened to Seminole County Public school students that would be attending the school to name the mascot and decide the school colors, giving the school the mascot of the Huskies and the school colors of blue, black and silver. Every year up until the 2008-09 school year, a new grade was added. As of the 2009-2010 school year, the second senior class was in place. The Seminole County School Board named the school for its school superintendent Dr. Paul J. Hagerty who retired in 2003, having served as superintendent since 1992.

Before the school became a high school, it was Lawton Chiles Middle School for several years while construction on several buildings continued. Principal Sam Momary oversaw all construction. During the 05-06 year, Hagerty was opened and new lines were drawn for the county. Many middle school students were switched to Jackson Heights Middle School or the newly constructed Lawton Chiles Middle School.[citation needed]

In 2015, Hagerty High School was ranked #1 of 18 high schools in the Seminole County Public Schools by US News and World Report.[1]
