Portal:Strategy games
A strategy game is a game in which the player's decision-making influences the outcome significantly. They are usually board games, computer or video games, card games, or another type of game. Several games include strategy extensively, while others to a lesser degree, complicating demarcation. It is sometimes more accurate to say that some games have strategic elements, rather than being a strategy game; however, this depends on the game. The deciding factor separating strategy game from other genres is that there is either no or relatively less chance involved. Usually, the only physical element is the interaction with the game pieces, although there are exceptions. Players have similar starting positions or sitiuations, but use strategy to gain advantages over others. Strategy, as well as tactics, is dissimilar to luck in that chance-based games rely more heavily on probability. The word "strategy" is used by the military, and refers to high-level planning. Strategy games often deal with small-scale situations. Tactical games, a type of strategy game, deal with military planning, though also on a smaller scale than the military.Template:/box-footer Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'Module:Box-header/colours' not found. Supreme Commander, abbreviated as SupCom, is a real-time strategy computer game designed by Chris Taylor and developed by his company, Gas Powered Games. The game is considered to be the spiritual successor to Taylor's 1997 game, Total Annihilation, which was ranked by GameSpy as the number one real-time strategy game of all time. First announced in the August 2005 edition of PC Gamer magazine, the game was released on February 16, 2007 in Europe, and February 20, 2007, in North America. An expansion was announced on June 28 of the same year. Supreme Commander is focused on using a giant bipedal mech called Armoured Command Units (or ACUs) to build a base, then upgrading units to reach higher technology tiers, and conquering opponents. Set in the future, the player can command one of three nations: the Aeon Illuminate, the Cybran Nation, or the United Earth Federation. Supreme Commander was highly anticipated in pre-release previews, and was received well by critics, with a Metacritic average of 86 out of 100.
