Cosenza F.C., which the historic team of the city was expelled from 2003–04 Serie C1.[1] Cosenza F.C. finished 7th in 2003–04 Serie D. In 2004 old Cosenza was also admitted to Serie D, but finally withdrew from football activities in 2005.

A.S. Cosenza F.C. was renamed to A.S. Cosenza Calcio S.p.A. in 2005.[2] In 2007 the club folded again.[3] Rende relocated to Cosenza to become the new Cosenza team: Fortitudo Cosenza in the same year. (P.I. 01900520789)[4]

The president of Rende, Franco Ippolito Chiappetta was about to buy Cosenza F.C. in January 2005, which the team was temporarily renamed to Fortitudo Cosenza S.S.D. a.r.l. (P.I. 02688160783) that year.[5][6]

In total A.S. Cosenza Calcio spent 4 seasons in Serie D.

History

Following the club's cancellation from the Italian football panorama, then Cosenza Mayor Eva Catizone started a group with the aim to form a new club, A.S. Cosenza F.C., that was successively admitted into Serie D as relocation of rival Calabrian side Castrovillari.

In 2005 AS Cosenza FC switched its denomination into A.S. Cosenza Calcio. However, the club missed promotion once again in 2006 and 2007, being defeated by Siracusa in the promotion playoffs both times.
