Abanuea is an island of the Republic of Kiribati. It is subdivision of the main Tarawa Island. The name translates to "the beach which is long-lasting".

Despite being part of the Republic, it has disappeared under water in the 1990s. Despite being uninhabited at the time, it was commonly used by fisherman.[1][2] It and another island Tebua Tarawa disappeared in 1999.
