Aida Maud Boyer McAnn Flemming, CM (1896 – January 25, 1994) was the wife of Hugh John Flemming, who was Premier of New Brunswick from October 8, 1952 to July 11, 1960.
Education
She graduated from Mount Allison University with a BA in English, University of Toronto (Certificate in Education, 1917), and Columbia University in New York (MA in English, 1930).[1]
Cookbook
She edited and published a cookbook in 1938, entitled The New Brunswick cookbook.[1][2]
Marriage
On August 20, 1946, she married Hugh John Flemming. This was her third marriage, as two previous marriages had ended in divorce.[1]
Children
Their son, Hugh John Flemming, Jr., followed his father into politics and ran for a seat in the New Brunswick Legislature in the election of 1974 but lost to Shirley Dysart by 73 votes.
Kindness Club
She founded the International Kindness Club for Children, a club to teach children to love and be kind to animals, in 1959.[3] It was later incorporated into the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), of which Mrs. Flemming became an honorary board member. She was also active in a number of charities.
Honors
She received an Honorary degree as Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from Mount Allison University in 1958.[4]
She was also voted as the Atlantic Woman of the Year in 1962,[5] and was awarded the Order of Canada in 1978.[6]
