Demographics

According to Indian census, 2001, the village demographics are as follows:[1]

  • Total Population - 6,563 in 1,397 households.
  • Male Population - 3,346
  • Female Population - 3,217
  • Children under 6 years of age - 750 (Boys - 375 and Girls - 375)
  • Total Literates - 2,967

Culture

Alamanda, a major panchayati village, once politically dominated by Kshatriyas (Rajus). At present Velamas dominate this village. The most dominant caste is Velamas. The Velama caste people have been ruling from last 50 years. Koppula Velama Sri Lagudu Simhadri] is the powerful candidate from this village who is former Zilla Parshed Chairman for Vizianagaram Dt. Most of the Velama families surname as Alamanda moved out of Alamanda due to some reasons and settled in different places throughout the AP like Jangareddygudem - West Godavari District, Ramanaa Palem - Visaka District, Kavala Padu - East Godavari District. Also few of the families with surname alamanda moved out of India and settled outside and started business and well known resorts named as alamanda-resort in St Martin.
