Ananda Shipyard and Shipways

Ananda Shipyards and Slipways is a Bangladeshi shipbuilding company. It is the first Bangladeshi shipbuilding company to deliver a seagoing vessel to a foreign customer. It is a part of the Ananda Group of companies.

A family owned enterprise, today it is the largest shipyard in the private sector in Bangladesh. It was originally founded in 1983 on the Buriganga river as Ananda Builders Ltd. Later, as the business grew, the yard was shifted to its present location on the Meghna river in 1985. In 1999 the yard went through modernization and capacity upgrade and the name was changed to Ananda Shipyards and Slipways Ltd. (ASSL).

The shipyard has a production area of 80,000 square meters. With a workforce of about 700, it produces about 8000 tonnes in terms of consumed steel per year. [1] Till November of 2008 the company has received orders worth $373 millions from European and African buyers for building 34 vessels.[2]
