Bagaha is a city and a municipality in Pashchim Champaran district in the state of Bihar, India. It is Subdivision of Pashchim Champaran district and is Police District. It is located around 64 kilometres (40 mi) away from its district headquarters Bettiah towards north-west. It is 294 kilometers away from its state capital Patna.

Demographics
As of 2011[update] India census,[2] Bagaha had a population of 113,012. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Bagaha has an average literacy rate of 38%, lower than the national average of 59.5%; with 66% of the males and 34% of females literate. 19% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Overview
Bagaha is on the banks of the Gandak river. The area is very fertile due to its location in the terai of the Himalayas. The main crops grown here are sugarcane, wheat and rice.
Declaring Bagaha as Police District was one of major steps by Government in order to reduce crime. The road connecting to Patna is now National Highway 28B.
Town has three cinema halls, one civil court, one subdivisional hospital, and government and private high schools and colleges.
Bagaha is divided into two blocks Bagaha-1 and Bagaha-2.
- Bagaha-1 includes the main market of Bagaha, i.e., Bagaha Bazaar, Sub Divisional Hospital, High School named D.M.(Devi Mangal Singh)Academy, Girls' High School, Som Valley International School, City Montessori Public School, Chitrangada cinema hall,And Infonet computer Institute .

Auto rickshaw is the main channel of public transportation between Bagaha-1 and Bagaha-2.
The town is well connected to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Amritsar, Dehradun, Haridwar, Porbandar Gandhinagar and Varanasi with superfast trains. Some of the trains which run through Bagaha are Awadh(Bandra) Exp., Saptakranti Exp., Satyagrah Exp., Motihari-Porbandar Exp., Bapudham Exp., Amarnath Exp., Dehradoon Exp., Purvanchal Exp., Jannayak exp. etc.
Attractions
Bagaha is not that well known town of Bihar. Bagaha is pleased with all the natural beauty and historical significance. The Valmikinagar Wildlife Sanctuary is about 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) North of Bagaha. The forest is full of subtropical trees like sal, sagwan, bamboo, and cane. It is also full of royal Bengal tigers, black bears, pythons, leopard, and many species of deer and birds. The Department of Tourism in Bihar state is now giving special packages for this area for better tourism options. The Valmikinagar area is in Bagaha police district, and is now gaining popularity with its motels and Guest houses on the bank of Budhi Gandak with the boundary of Nepal.
About 35 kilometres (22 mi) from Bagaha Bazar (Bagaha-1) is a small hamlet called Valmikinagar, a place of strategic as well as mythological importance. It is said that this was the place where Sita stayed with her two sons when banished from Ayodhya by Lord Rama. Two temples are there with remnants of the Hawan Kund, etc. After Valmikinagar, Nepal starts and there is a large barrage on the Gandak River that is the border between the two countries. The forest area is full of old temples of religious significance. Valmikinagar forest is taken under tiger reserved project. There is an old Saligram Temple in the middle of the town it is believed that the Saligram was brought in a Chunauti and the size of the Saligram stone has enlarged in bigger size. The Temple has very large premises. Bagaha and the regions close to it are full of scenic beauty and historical significance. A village named Borwal which is situated on the bank of Triveny canal.From the side of canal we can see many picks of Himalayas.
In Bagaha 1 there are some famous and religious temples as Joda Mandir, Pakki Baulli, Radheshayam Mandir and Hanumaan Garhi. There is a church near Bagaha 1 the most famous mosque is situated in Bagaha 1 Ratanmala. Chhath Pooja is the most religious festival in Bagaha. The devotees of Chhath Pooja pay their homage and offering to God (Sun and Chhathi Maata) at the bank of Gandak river. A big fair is organized on this occasion at the river bank.
Historical information
Bagaha is the first prominent railway station of North-Western Bihar and of Champaran District. Mahatma Gandhi had started Champaran Movement in 1917 from there. He took bath early in the morning on the well of Middle School namely D.M. Academy (now High School) alias Devi Mangal Singh Uchcha Vidyalaya. Peon of the school, i.e. father of Jieut Ram, served him all the respect and help to catch the train in very morning to start Champaran Movement. Now the well of the school has been dismantled .After this information school administration has excavated and made a beautiful monument of the well. There is a famous Kothi in Bagaha 1 where Englishmen used to live and rule over, after independence The Kothi become a destination for tourists as still there are a lot antique things. The place has been developed as a colony Kothi which is behind Bagaha Thana.
