Bii (born July 7, 1989) is a Chinese-language singer from South Korea, active in Taiwan.

Early life

Bii was born and raised in South Korea. His father is Taiwanese and his mother is Korean; at the time of his birth, the South Korean nationality law did not allow South Korean women who were married to foreigners to transmit their nationality to their children, so he only held Taiwanese nationality. He also has a younger brother, Pil Seo Young (필서영). His life in South Korea was reported to be a bit challenging as he did not qualify for a national identity card. He could not afford any health insurance and he had to pay higher tuition fees than his Korean peers. At the age of 17, SM talent agent scouted Bii during high school, but his mother rejected the idea of him being a singer.[1]

Bii was always interested in music. He was the lead singer in his high school band. Later he went to Dongguan, China to find his father (where he worked) and to pursue a musical career. The name "Bii" stands for "Be I, I", indicating his dual personas.[2]

Music career

Debut (2010)

On July 9, 2010, Bii released his first EP which was titled "Bii". This EP contains a total of 4 songs: 1 in Korean and the remaining 3 in Mandarin.

On October 6, 2010, Bii released his first album, "Bii Story" which has been sung in both Korean and Mandarin. Several of his songs were featured in Zhong Wu Yan (鍾無艷), a Taiwanese drama.[3]

He took a hiatus from the entertainment industry to serve his mandatory military service in Taiwan between November 2011 and November 2012.[4]

2015

Bii sang the opening theme song of Someone Like You (TV series) entitled "I'm Still Missing You 我还想念你." [5] [6]

Acting career

Bii had a cameo role on the 2013 Taiwanese drama Love Around as Peter.[7]

He made an appearance on Episode 1 of 2015 Taiwanese drama Someone Like You (TV series) as Gu Long who raced against Fang Zan Cheng Kingone Wang . [8]

He portrayed a character Wei Qing Yang as one of the main cast in Bromance, a 2015 Taiwanese romance, comedy television series also starring Baron Chen, Megan Lai, Sean Lee and Yuan Chen. Filming began on September 19, 2015, and the rest would be filmed as it aired. First original broadcast began on October 18, 2015 on TTV airing every Sunday night at 10:00–11:30 pm. [9]
