Carole Ann DiFalco Radziwill (born August 20, 1963)[1][2][3] is an American journalist, author, and reality television personality.
Early life and education
Carole grew up in Suffern, New York. [4] She earned a B.A. at Hunter College and an M.B.A. at New York University.[3]
Career
Radziwill began her news career at ABC in New York in 1986 as an intern in postproduction for 20/20, a news magazine show.[5] She was later assigned to "Close Up" as a production secretary. She eventually worked for Peter Jennings's documentary unit, producing shows on abortion and gun control, and covering foreign policy stories in Cambodia, Haiti, and India.[6]
In 1991, Radziwill was stationed in Israel and reported on the SCUD missile attacks during the Gulf War. In 2003, during the War on Afghanistan, she spent six weeks in Khandahar, embedded with an infantry unit of the 101st Airborne Division. She produced segments for an ABC-TV show called Profiles From the Frontline. She has won several awards, including three Emmys, one for a story she produced on land mines in Cambodia, and a Peabody.[6]
After her husband's death, Radziwill left ABC News to write a memoir about her childhood, her career at ABC News, as well as her effort to manage her husband's cancer. What Remains: A Memoir of Fate, Friendship and Love (Scribner, 2005) made the New York Times Best Seller list. A review of the book in the New York Times called it a "bittersweet account" that emphasized "graciousness over disclosure."[7][8]
In 2006, Radziwill signed with Glamour magazine to write a monthly column called "Lunch Date". Her Lunch Dates have included former mayor Rudy Giuliani,[9] and Hollywood actors Antonio Banderas,[10] Rachel Weisz,[11] and Alec Baldwin.[12]
In 2011, Radziwill joined the cast of Bravo TV's The Real Housewives of New York City in season 5.[6]
She sold her first novel, The Widow's Guide to Sex & Dating, in a high six-figure deal to Holt Publishing. It was released on February 11, 2014.[13] She is in development to produce Widow's Guide as a TV series. Her third book – a yet untitled collection of essays – is due out Spring 2014.[6]
Personal life
On August 27, 1994, she married fellow ABC News producer Anthony Radziwill in East Hampton, New York.[14] Radziwill was the only son of Prince Stanislas Radziwill of Poland by his wife, Lee Bouvier[14] (younger sister of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis). Through this marriage, Carole is customarily accorded the title princess, although she rarely uses it. Anthony Radziwill died on August 10, 1999 at age forty after a five-year battle with cancer.[1]
Radziwill was a close friend of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, who was married to her husband's cousin, John F. Kennedy, Jr.. Kennedy, Bessette-Kennedy, and her sister, Lauren Bessette, perished in an airplane crash off the coast of Martha's Vineyard less than four weeks before her husband's death.[1]
