The original Blood Diamonds directed by Teco Benson and financed by Sam Kargbo, a Nigerian Lawyer, was shot in December 2003. It was shot by an all Nigerian crew but the cast was a mix of Nigerian and Sierra Leonean artists. The Premier in Freetown was attended by the President of Sierra Leone and his cabinet. The Premier in Lagos was well publicized.
The storyline of the Hollywood Blood Diamond directed by Edward Zwick featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Djimon Hounsou and Jennifer Connelly is in many respects similar to Sam Kargbo's 2003 Blood Diamond.
At the same time Sam Kargbo financed another Sierra Leonean movie called No Place to Hide.
