Films in the slasher genre. Films which merely feature murderers or serial killers do not themselves classify as slasher films; it is a specific genre with a general trait of featuring a mysterious villain who stalks and dispatches multiple victims. A distinction is also to be made between the slasher genre and the Italian giallo film genre, the latter of which has more of an emphasis on crime and mystery.
