Charles Henry John Benedict Crofton Chetwynd Chetwynd-Talbot, 22nd Earl of Shrewsbury, DL (born 18 December 1952) is an English nobleman.

Background and education

Charles is the son of John Chetwynd-Talbot, 21st Earl of Shrewsbury and Nadine Crofton. He was educated at Harrow School.

Political Career

Lord Shrewsbury is one of the 92 hereditary peers elected to sit in the House of Lords, and is also a whip for the Conservative and Unionist Party. He acts as deputy to Ian Dudson, Queen Elizabeth's Lord Lieutenant in the County of Stafford, and is involved either as a patron or as honorary president with a number of charitable bodies, including being president of the Staffordshire Historic Churches Trust, and the patron of 10 Livings. As a keen huntsman and fly-fisher, Lord Shrewsbury is president of the Gun Trade Association and deputy-chairman of the Standing Conference on Country Sports, as well as being a former president of the British Shooting Sports Council. He is also a liveryman of several London livery companies, namely the companies of weavers, gunmakers, and blacksmiths. He is a member of the Army & Navy Club and Pratt's Club. Lord Shrewsbury has divested himself of many Manorial Titles by the "sale of titles" to third parties through auction houses,[1] though he retains all rights pertaining to those titles.[citation needed] He promotes British industry and commerce in the United States, and specializes in the sporting guns trade.

Family

On 5 January 1973, the Earl of Shrewsbury married Deborah Jane Hutchinson, daughter of Noel Staughton Hutchinson and Jennifer Hutchinson of Ellerton, Shropshire. They have three children:

  • Lady Victoria Chetwynd-Talbot (b. 7 September 1975). Married Daniel Goodall in 2005; has one child:
    • Charlie Goodall (b. 15 September 2006)
