Echoworx, an email encryption software company, is based in Toronto, Canada, with offices in Atlanta and London.[1] As a certificate authority,[2] Echoworx is a member of both the Microsoft Root Certificate Program [3] and Apple Root Certificate Program.[4] Echoworx operates several data centers, including locations in the United States[5] and Europe.[6]
History
Founded in 2000, Echoworx is headed by its CEO and president Michael Ginsberg, formerly the CEO of CertaPay, an email money transfer technology company.[7]
In December 2005, AT&T was one of the first telecommunications companies in the United States to white-label and provide Echoworx encryption services to its subscribers.[8]
Verizon Communications, a Dow 30 company which delivers broadband and other communication to wireline and wireless customers, launched encrypted email products in December 2005.[9][10]
British Telecom is a leading provider of communications solutions and services operating in 170 countries.[11] British Telecom launched BT Secure Mail and Encrypted Message Exchange (BT EMX) based on public key infrastructure (PKI) in October 2007.[12]
MessageLabs, a provider of integrated messaging and web security services, launched Echoworx policy based encryption [13] and was later acquired by Symantec in October 2008.[14]
Apptix is an application service provider (ASP) technology company providing hosted business services (or software as a service)) for small and medium-sized businesses. It provided Apptix Secure Mail powered by Echoworx as part of its Hosted Email Security Services portfolio. It launched the service in April 2010.[15]
Hostway, an infrastructure-as-a-service provider, partnered with Echoworx to provide encryption services in 2011.[16]
The company's original priority was the small business market, but this has evolved to the enterprise and corporate market.
Products
Echoworx offers several products in the area of email encryption. Its products are offered both through direct sales and as a white-labelled product[17] through several partners. Major offerings include:
- OneWorld - A policy-based email encryption solution designed to work with multiple platforms. OneWorld supports PGP, S/MIME and TLS, in addition to encrypted PDF attachments and a secure web portal.[18]
- Encrypted Mail Gateway - A cloud-based solution that uses enterprise policies to encrypt emails[19]
- Encrypted Message Exchange - A fully hosted secure web-based email portal[20]
- mobilEncrypt - On-device email encryption for iOS, Android and BlackBerry products.[21] mobilEncrypt was response to a growing trend of BYOD policies in businesses[22]
