About
The Election Support Group (ESG) was formed in late 2008 to strengthen all aspects of the electoral environment in Pakistan. The ESG grew out of the Technical Working Group, which was formed in 2006 to support the General Elections held in February 2008.
Membership
The ESG consist of diplomatic missions, international donor organizations, and implementing partners/NGOs. The secretariat for the group is the Pakistan branch of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems.
Objectives
- To strengthen the electoral environment through engagement at all levels, from the political to the technical;
- To share information about the electoral environment amongst members of the ESG;
- To coordinate electoral interventions so that these complement each other in the most effective manner;
- To the degree possible, to develop united positions within the ESG community on electoral reform issues;
- To promote these positions where appropriate with relevant stakeholders;
- To discuss and pursue the efforts of ESG in the context of wider democracy and governance issues.
