Felipe Arantes (born February 9, 1988) is a Brazilian mixed martial artist, who currently competes in the featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. A professional MMA competitor since 2008, Arantes mostly fought in Brazil before signing with the UFC.

Mixed martial arts career

Background and early career

Arantes started training in Judo and Tae Kwon Do at 12 years old and Muay Thai when he was 14. He eventually turned to MMA training when he turned 18.[4]

Arantes made his professional MMA debut in May 2008. He competed in events for smaller promotions in his native Brazil (Paranagua Fight, Samurai FC, Full Battle Heroes) and in the United States (Ultimate Warrior Challenge and Urban Conflict Championships) before signing with the UFC. Prior to his UFC debut he had amassed a record of 13 wins, 3 losses and 2 No Contests.[5]

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Arantes officially signed with the UFC in July 2011.[6] He made his promotional debut on August 27, 2011 at UFC 134 against Iuri Alcântara, replacing an injured Antonio Carvalho.[7] He lost to Alcântara via unanimous decision.

In his second UFC bout, Arantes faced Antonio Carvalho on January 14, 2012 at UFC 142.[8] He won the fight via unanimous decision, earning his first UFC victory.

Arantes faced Milton Vieira on June 23, 2012 at UFC 147.[9] The two fought to a split draw.[10]

Arantes faced Godofredo Pepey on June 8, 2013 at UFC on Fuel TV 10.[11] He won the fight via TKO in the first round.[12]

Arantes was expected to face Sam Sicilia on September 4, 2013 at UFC Fight Night 28.[13] However, Sicilia pulled out of the bout and was replaced by Kevin Souza.[14] He lost the fight via split decision.[15]

Arantes faced Maximo Blanco on February 15, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 36.[16] He won the fight via unanimous decision.[17]

Arantes faced Andre Fili on October 25, 2014 at UFC 179.[18] He lost the fight by unanimous decision.[19]

Making his bantamweight debut, Arantes faced Yves Jabouin on August 23, 2015 at UFC Fight Night 74.[20] He won the fight via submission in the first round and also earned a Performance of the Night bonus.[21][22]

Arantes is expected to face Jerrod Sanders on July 7, 2016 at UFC Fight Night 90.[23]
