Gaithersburg High School (GHS) is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Part of Montgomery County Public Schools, the school was founded in 1904 as "Gaithersburg School" and offered grades K-12. Since 2013, the school resides at 101 Education Blvd and currently offers education for those in grades 9–12. Both Forest Oak Middle School and Gaithersburg Middle School feed into the high school.

2011-2013 renovations

A new school was being built next to the original one starting summer 2011. Adding the new building to the wing they built in 2007 with renovations to that wing. A limited amount of student parking were available due to the construction of the new building on the old student lot. The new building was completed in time for the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.[2][3][4]

Women's Basketball

Gaithersburg High School women's basketball team has been very successful for the past 6 years. With four State Final appearances and two State Championships, Gaithersburg has been a top contender in the state of Maryland.[6]

Men and Women's Swimming & Diving

Gaithersburg High School has had a swimming program since 1970. Gaithersburg is 1 of 26 high schools in Montgomery County that swim in 4 divisions based on how successful a team is. Each division has a number of teams which varies from year to year based on a team's record from the previous season.

More recently, the swimming & diving team, with athletes of different skill levels, has been one of the larger teams in the Montgomery County Public Schools.[7] A season consists of 2 Scrimmages (one at the beginning of the season and one before the divisional meet), 5 Dual Meets, 1 Divisional Meet, 1 Metros Meet, 1 Regional Meet, and 1 State Meet.[8] The Washington Metropolitan Interscholastic Swim Meet (commonly referred as Metros) is an invitational meet for swimming and diving teams from the D.C. area private schools and the Montgomery County Public Schools.

The 2011-2012 team had two State champions who were Junior Nationals level swimmers.[5][7][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]

Demographics

Gaithersburg High is a very diverse school. As of 2011, the school is 27.3% Black, 9.4% Asian, 36.9% Hispanic, and 23.7% Non-Hispanic White. The graduation rate is 76.2%.
