Gandipalem is a small village on the banks of Manneru river in Nellore District in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Demography and culture
The village population is around 7000 people. The occupations of the village are farming and animal husbandry. People predominantly speak Telugu.
Attractions
The village will be insignificant in Nellore district without the following two things.
- Gandipalem reservoir: The dam was built here to save many villages in Udaygiri Mandal from famine in dry season and to support irrigation for around 9.46 km². The main source of the reservoir is river Manneru, a east flowing medium river to join Coramandel coast. The 130 km long river Manneru starts near Pillipalli village of Kanigiri taluk of Prakasam district. Dokkalavagu, Uppuvagu, Pillaperu and Upputeru are the main tributaries of this river.[1]
- Government Residential School: It is a Gurukula Patasala, where kids not only study, but also live amongst their peers from 5th grade to 10th grade schooling. Andhra Pradesh state government patterns two high quality gurukula schools in every district.
