Ginifer railway station is located on the Sunbury line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the western Melbourne suburb of St Albans opening on 31 October 1982.[1]
Originally to be named Furlong after the nearby arterial, when opened it was named Ginifer in honour of Jack Ginifer, a recently deceased local member of State Parliament.[1] Boom barriers were provided at the Furlong Road level crossing in 1984.[2]
The Government of Victoria announced in June 2015 that the Furlong Road level crossing would be removed by putting the railway line into a trench, and that consequently Ginifer station would be rebuilt below ground.[3] The rebuilt station is to be moved a short distance to a new location adjacent to Furlong Road.[4] and as at January 2016 this work is well underway.
