Indian Institute of Information Technology, Dharwad (IIITD)[1] is one among the 20 IIIT’s proposed under Non-profit Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model by Ministry of Human Resource Development (India).[2] IIITD is an academic and research Institute fully funded by Government of India,[3] Government of Karnataka and Industry partners as M/s. Keonics.[4]

The academic session for the year 2015 - 2016 has commenced[5] in a temporary campus located in a rented space in top floor of a commercial complex named IT Park, Hubballi, Dharwad District, Karnataka from 17 August 2015, with 4 years B.Tech undergraduate programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) courses with a total of 31 students. Admission to Indian Institute of Information Technology is through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB).[6][7][8]

The temporary campus does have a newly setup computer lab, other labs are yet to be formed. Some of the classes are handled by faculty from National Institute of Technology, Karnataka and from 2nd semester onwards institute plans to hire its own faculty with MTech and Phd passouts. The temporary campus does have Computer lab, and a few books available in its own library closet other Laboratories and library facilities are being utilized at B.V.B. College of Engineering and Technology, Hubballi.[9]

New structure for IIITD is proposed to be coming in 61.06 acres of land at Tadasinakoppa near Dharwad.[10][11][12] and will take a minimum of 3 years.

The institute does not have its own hostel facility and hence tied up with external vendor. The hostel and mess charges together are Rs.27,000/- per semester - these charges does not include afternoon lunch and Sunday night dinner. The hostel does not offer these, the students have to arrange these on their own.

The institute charges Rs.56,000/- per semester as tuition fee which is higher than the fee charged by any NITs. A similar institute IIIT Kottayyam charges 50% less for similar education.

There are no sports and extra curricular activities available at present since the institute is operating out of temporary campus.
