Parks and entertainment

Jalahalli is one of the less congested areas in Bangalore. 25% of the area remains green because most of the land is possessed by big entities like Bharat Electronics Limited and Hindustan Machine Tools. There are many beautiful parks and roads in this area. BEL Park which starts from the BEL Circle is one of the biggest parks and also provides roller skating. HMT Cinemas which entertained movie goers of all sections of society in the late eighties and nineties had been closed for years until it reopened in 2010.

The JP park which in Mathikere is close to Jalahalli village and is spread across 88 acres, including a swimming pool and a musical fountain.

Move N Pick hotel has opened up in Gokala extension, that is just across the ring road bordering the Jalahalli Village, the hotel has a spa and dining facilities.

The Government organizations surrounding the village have ensured there are good parks and play grounds. The play grounds are always active with people playing cricket. You can join them and have a fantastic time in the ground. There are no pubs in this area, but you get lots of local bars where you can buy alcohol. The Ring road has a couple of restaurants as well.

Rockline Mall is a newly opened mall in Jalahalli cross.

Transport

The area is well connected by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. Following are the buses connecting the area with major areas/bus terminus of the city.[1]

Current settlements

Jalahalli Village is surrounded by large government organizations and these started just after independence. Many of the people in Jalahalli village are ex employees from these organizations. (Bharat Electronics Limited AKA BEL, Hindusthan Machine Tools Aka HMT, Airforce and ISRO). Their children have benefitted from the IT boom that happened in Bangalore in the late '90s. Before independence this was a tiny hamlet of local villagers and the only important thing was the airforce training center set up by the British. The road leading to the Ayappan temple was a runway for small planes, and the Jalahalli East campus extended up to Nagaland where some Pakistani POWs were kept.

Developments

Jalahalli area is dotted with small scale industries all over. Its proximity to Peenya industrial area has influenced the kind of work force availability. This is how it has always been until the airport became operational in Devanahalli.

The Bangalore International Airport [BIAL], located at Devanahalli, has brought in some good developments to Jalahalli and added to the floating population. The noise and congestion of the city starts only when you reach the outer ring road. Of late, a lot of apartments have come up in this place which bear certain big names like Prestige, Brigade group, Pratham Constructions etc.

The opening of Ring road has led to some developments and there are 5 star hotels like move n pick and a host of ATMs, schools and other basic amenities.
