Katy Tiz is a British pop singer-songwriter who gained mainstream acknowledgement after releasing her cover of Rock Mafia's single "The Big Bang" in 2014. Tiz became the first unsigned artist to be declared 'On the Verge' by Clear Channel/iHeartRadio, and "The Big Bang" subsequently entered Billboard's Hot 100 chart, iTunes' Top 100, and Shazam's 'Top 100 USA'. The success led to her signing a recording contract with Atlantic Records.

Tiz then released a second single called "Whistle (While You Work It)". This single charted well in Australia with the peak position being within the Top 15, and gained Tiz a Gold Certificate from RMNZ. Tiz is currently working on her debut album slated for release in 2016, as well as touring and promoting her follow-up single.

Career

Tiz was born on November 18, 1988[citation needed]. In late 2012, she was signed to Lava/Republic, and Warner/Chappell Publishing, and released three stand-alone singles, "Famous", "Heart" and "Red Cup".[1]

Shortly after parting ways with Lava/Republic in 2013, Tiz teamed with music industry veteran Bruce Tyler, who introduced her to songwriting/production duo Rock Mafia.[2] Tiz released a cover of Rock Mafia's popular song "The Big Bang", which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on May 17, 2014.[3]

Tiz is an active songwriter. Besides her own music, she has also written hits for other artists such as Girls' Generation, Cheryl Cole, among others.[4] Tiz is also a dolphin trainer.[5]

Tiz released a follow-up single in 2015, "Whistle (While You Work It)". Tiz said in an interview that she wrote the song about a darker period in her life where she felt like nothing was going her way, but her brother was there to tell her to chin up, keep moving, and never give up.[6] It was cowritten with Kinetics & One Love, songwriter Emily Warren and was produced by JR Rotem.[7]

A music video for "Whistle (While You Work It)" was filmed and released by Syndrome Studio and director James Larese. The Xanadu-like video combines live action with animation elements and shows Tiz springing to life from street art, then proceeding on an adventure with a crew of animated animal friends. On YouTube Tiz's music video currently has over 5,000,000 Views.

Tiz is an avid animal lover and fan of Banksy's street art and has said in an interview, “This video comes from my love of graffiti artwork and takes inspiration from some of the greatest fairytales of all time."[8]

Tiz's debut studio album is set to be released in 2015, and has stated that she worked with her brother, Kinetics & One Love, Emily Warren, and JR Rotem. Tiz stated about the album in an interview with Idolator: "Something about this album is that it is very consistent, it’s not just different songs from different producers.", Tiz also stated in the same interview about the album's sound and lyrics, and about collaborating with her brother: "It’s sort of reggae-inspired as far as the feeling goes. It’s a real piece of honesty for the first time in my life. It’s how I genuinely feel about things, and things that myself and my friends have experienced. Nothing was pushed on me, my label was amazing with joining me on this journey. That’s really inspiring for me, because it makes me believe in my own voice. I’ve worked with my brother on a lot of this music, and it’s something that I’m really proud of.".[9]
