Khayyam Sarhadi (1948 – February 3, 2011) was a Pakistani film and television actor and a radio personality.[1]

Early life

Khayyam was born to a Muslim family in 1948 in Bombay, in the home of parents Zia Sarhadi and Zahira Ghaznavi in British India and grew up there. Later he moved to Karachi, Pakistan and stayed there for sometime and moved again to Lahore. His maternal grandfather, Rafiq Ghaznavi, was a musician and since both his parents were writers, he was into showbiz from an early age. Khayyam travelled to the United States where he got his master's degree in cinematography.[1]

Personal life

Khayyam Sarhadi was married to a film actress Atiya Sharaf. Later, the couple got divorced and he got married to a TV actress Saiqa. He had four daughters one from Atiya and three from Saiqa, one of his daughters is Zarghuna Khayyam. Sarhadi was a son of a famous Indian film director, producer and writer Zia Sarhadi and his mother was a writer named Zahra Sarhadi.[1] He was the uncle of a model and actress Zhalay Sarhadi.

Career

Sarhadi started his career from acting and directing theatre plays and later started working in TV dramas with Pakistan Television Corporation. Since then he had worked in thousands of dramas and directed a few. He also worked in some films.[2] His scripts were in Roman letters because he couldn't read Urdu well.[1]

Throughout his career Khayyam Sarhadi won hundreds of awards including PTV National Award, Nigar Award, and the prestigious award of Pakistan — The Pride of Performance Award in 1991.[1] He was among the few who won a Pride Of Performance at a young age.

Death

Sarhadi died with a sudden heart attack on February 3, 2011 at the age of 62 in Lahore. His funeral was held at his residence in Defence Housing Authority, Lahore.[3]
