Major achievements in gymnastics by nation
This is a list of achievements in major international gymnastics events according to gold, silver and bronze medal results obtained by athletes representing different nations. The objective is not to create a combined medal table; the focus is on listing the best positions achieved by athletes in major global events, ranking the countries according to the most number of podiums accomplished by athletes of these nations. In order to be considered for the making of the list, the competition must be open to athletes from nations across every continent, with no cultural, geographical, political or other sort of limitation preventing participation of gymnasts. Invitational-only events, such as the American Cup and the Goodwill Games, were not eligible because they might impose subjective limitations on which athletes are allowed to compete.
For the creation of the list only results from senior competitions were consulted, in which athletes must usually be 16 years of age or older in order to participate. Results achieved in junior or age group events were not considered for the making of this list; therefore, results achieved at the Youth Olympic Games and at the Age Group divisions at the World Gymnastics Championships were not taken into account. The only senior meet included in the list which imposes a maximum age limit is the Summer Universiade, in which gymnasts must be within the age range of 17 to 28 years old, and must have not been out of university for more than a year.[1][2]
Results from six major international gymnastics competitions in disciplines recognized by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) were taken into account: the Summer Olympic Games, the World Gymnastics Championships, the FIG World Cup Final, the World Games, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Grand Prix Final and the Summer Universiade.[3][4][5] Please note that medals earned at Grand Prix stages were not taken into consideration; only medals earned at the Grand Prix Final were counted. Likewise, medals earned at World Cup stages are not counted, only medals earned at World Cup Final events, which were staged from 1975 to 2008. As of 2016, no plans for the return of the World Cup Final have emerged; though the World Cup series is currently active, no World Cup Final event has been staged since December 2008, in any discipline.

- The table is pre-sorted by total number of medal results. Persisting a tie, equal ranks are given, with countries being listed in alphabetical order.
