Mass tort
From Infogalactic: the planetary knowledge core
A mass tort is a civil action involving numerous plaintiffs against one or a few corporate defendants in state or federal court. Law firms sometimes use mass media to reach possible plaintiffs.
The three main categories of mass torts include:
- Mass disaster torts
- Mass toxic torts
- Product liability torts
In U.S. federal courts, mass tort claims are often consolidated as multidistrict litigation. In some cases, mass torts are addressed through class action.
