North Coast hip hop like its counterparts (East Coast hip hop, West Coast hip hop, Southern hip hop and Midwest hip hop) is the rap/urban scene originating from Canada and arguably the Northeastern, United States. Northcoast hip hop is not always seen as fully developed though it is slowly establishing itself as an important part of the rap and hip hop scene.

Development

Due to the relatively new urban music scene in Canada, North Coast Hip Hop is still in progress. Many Canadians and those who love hip hop around the world do not refer to Canadian Hip Hop as "North Coast Hip Hop", but is said indirectly and subtly. Many Canadian rappers will shout it out evey now and then in a song, just plainly saying Northside, UpNorth, Naughty or Nasty North, Canada or Toronto (T-Dot,T.O) which is the primary port for most music or any industry coming out of Canada. Toronto arguably has the biggest Hip hop scene in the nation, second being Montreal, Vancouver and Halifax. Some prominent rappers and hip hop artists in the Northside scene include Drake, The Weeknd, Kardinal Offishall, Tory Lanez and Jazz Cartier.
