Pretham is an upcoming 2016 Indian Malayalam horror comedy film written and directed by Ranjith Sankar. Starring Jayasurya, Aju Varghese, Sruthi Ramachandran,[1] Govind Padmasoorya, and Pearle Maaney in the lead roles, it is produced under the banner of Dreams N Beyond. The story of the film revolves around three classmates who plan a reunion.

It is the third collaboration of Sankar and Jayasurya after their 2013 comedy film Punyalan Agarbattis and the 2015 National Award-winning inspirational drama Su.. Su... Sudhi Vathmeekam.[2]

Principal photography began in Cherai, Ernakulam on May 24, 2016.[3] The film is expected to release on August 12, 2016.[2]

Cast

Development

In 2000, Ranjith Sankar wrote the script for the hit TV serial, Nizhalukal, which was the first horror program to ever premier on Malayalam television. Citing it as an inspiration for the film, he said, "(I) have thought of umpteen subjects to explore the genre in movies all these years before arriving on this. Pretham is a horror comedy," on his Facebook profile.[4] [2]

In early May 2016, Jayasurya roped in Shruthi Ramakrishnan, who was previously seen in Ranjith's 2015 political drama Njan, and television personality Pearle Maaney to portray the female lead roles in the film.

On May 24, 2016, the film began rolling in the small town of Cherai in Ernakulam.

Justin Jose, who has previously worked in the 2015 Telugu epic film Baahubali: The Beginning and National Award-winning Bollywood film Bajrangi Bhaijaan, handles the sound design.

Release

On May 27, 2016, a 25-second teaser trailer was released on social media. After a series of questions with ominous music playing in the background, the short clip shows the title written in Malayalam, followed by a subtitle, Pani Thudangi (English: The work's started).[5][6]
