The Diocese of Ischia (Latin: Dioecesis Isclana) is a Roman Catholic ecclesiastical territory in Campania, southern Italy. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Naples.[1]
History
The first Bishop of Ischia, Pietro, was appointed in 1179. He was present at the Third Lateran Council. Other bishops were:
- Fra Bartolomeo Borsolari (1359), an Augustinian, brother of Blessed Giacomo Borsolari, the Dominican, who is buried in the church of S. Domenico;
- the learned Spanish Cistercian, Michele Cosal (1453);
- Girolamo Rocca (1672);
- Michele Cotignola (1692).[2]
