South African cricket team in Australia in 1971-72 (proposed)
From Infogalactic: the planetary knowledge core
The South African national cricket team was meant to tour Australia over the 1971-72 Australian summer. However the tour was cancelled after protests from the anti-apartheid movement.
The Australian Cricket Board had been influenced by the protests that accompanied the 1971 South Africa rugby union tour of Australia.[1]
South Africa squad: [2]
- Batsmen - Jimmy Cook, Lee Irvine, Graeme Pollock, Barry Richards, Kevin Mckenzie
- All rounders - Alan Kourie, Tiger Lance, Mike Procter, Clive Rice
- Fast bowlers - Chaka Watson, Pat Trimborn, Vince van der Bijl
- Wicketkeeper - Ray Jennings
The tour was replaced by a tour from a Rest of the World XI. This team included the Pollock brothers and Ackerman.
South Africa did not tour Australia again until 1992.
