Lans-Naik Tejbir Bura is a Nepalese army officer, mountaineer and a gold medalist in the mixed alpinism during the 1922 British Mount Everest expedition as a part of 1924 Winter Olympics.[1][2] He worked as a NOC of the Nepalese Army which was called as Gurkha Army at that time. Tejbir is set to be served as an Army officer to the British India Army and due to that he would have achieved the military rank of Naik which is a higher military rank in India equals to the rank of Corporal.
Tejbir Bura was part of the 1922 British Mount Everest expedition which also consisted of Charles Granville Bruce, was an attempt to climb the Mount Everest. The father of the Modern Olympics, Pierre de Coubertin stated that an Olympic medal should be rewarded to the Mount Everest climbers who were part of the 1922 Mount Everest expedition.[3][4] The athletes who were part of that expedition received gold medals in the 1924 Winter Olympics although the medal tallies are not taken into consideration according to the International Olympic Committee. Tejbir Bura was the first Nepalese to win an Olympic medal and he is still regarded as the only gold medalist for Nepal in its Olympic history, despite his gold medal isn't considered and isn't recognised according to the rules of the IOC.[5]
The sources still couldn't able to collect more information about Tejbir Bura especially the date of birth and his date of death of him and some critics says he is of Indian origin and not a Nepalese origin.[6]
