The University of Georgia College of Engineering is a college within the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, Georgia.

History

UGA offered the state's first engineering courses in the 1840s and conferred the state’s first engineering degrees in 1868. Due to the Great Depression, however, most engineering programs with the exception of Agricultural Engineering were moved to Georgia Tech.

In the summer of 2012, the College of Engineering was established to consolidate several engineering programs housed in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering as well as the Institute of the Faculty of Engineering. This marked the return of a comprehensive engineering program to UGA.

Student organizations

Student organizations include branches of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Biomedical Engineering Society, Engineers Without Borders, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Automative Engineers, Society of Environmental Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, and Theta Tau.
