WBYY (98.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting an Adult Contemporary format. Licensed to Somersworth, New Hampshire, USA, the station serves the Portsmouth area. The station is owned by Garrison City Radio Group, LLC.[2] Garrison City Radio Group is owned by the Robert Demers family, owners of Midway Buick; the company also owns WTSN.
History
The station was assigned the call letters WTSN-FM on September 6, 1991. On October 15, 1993, the station changed its call sign to WRZY, and on April 18, 1994 to WRGW;[3] under that call sign, the station took to the air January 25, 1995 with an adult contemporary format branded as "The Rock Garden."[1][4] The station changed its call letters to WRDX on April 15, 1996,[3] concurrent with a switch to an adult standards format branded "Radio Deluxe;" however, the AC format returned a month later,[5] and the station became WBYY on June 14, 1996[3] to reflect its "98.7 The Bay" branding.[6]
On August 31, 2015 WBYY and its sister station WTSN merged with Port Broadcasting's WNBP and WWSF as well as Aruba Capital Holdings' WXEX and WXEX-FM to form Coastal Radio Partners. All stations in the partnership are managed by Port Broadcasting.[7]The merger failed to close, and in April 2016 WBYY and sister station WTSN were sold to Binnie Media for $2.1 million pending FCC approval.[8]
Programming
Dan Lunnie hosts "Seacoast in the Morning", airing 5:30am to 10am Monday through Friday. Veronica Knight is the afternoon host from 10am to 3pm Monday through Friday and on Saturday mornings. She also hosts the "Back in the Day Cafe" at noon during the week, playing music from the 80's. Afternoon jock JC Haze rounds out the workday from 3pm to 7pm. Sundays feature Mel from 6am to 12 and Dave Andreesen takes over from noon to 7pm. The syndicated show "Delilah" airs nightly from 7pm to midnight.
