WINA is a News/Talk/Sports formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Charlottesville, Virginia, serving Charlottesville and Albemarle County, Virginia.[2] WINA is owned and operated by Saga Communications.[4]
History
WINA was founded in 1949 on 1400 kHz. In May 1957, Don Heyne, President of Charlottesville Broadcasting, announced a merger of WINA AM/FM with WJMA-AM in Orange, VA.[5] The stations operated independently until April 1961 when WJMA was sold to WJMA Incorporated.[6]
Translator
In addition to the main station, WINA is relayed by an FM translator to widen its broadcast area.[7] The translator launched on November 29, 2015.[8]
