The 2016–17 Nemzeti Bajnokság I, also known as NB I, is the 118th season of top-tier football in Hungary. The league is officially named OTP Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons. Ferencváros are the defending champions having won their twenthy-ninth Hungarian championship last season. As in the last season, twelve teams compete for the championship title, playing 33 rounds.

Teams

Puskás Akadémia and Békéscsaba finished the 2015–16 season in the last two places and thus were relegated to NB II division.

The two relegated teams were replaced with the champion 2015–16 NB II Gyirmót. The second promoted team will be either Zalaegerszegi TE or Mezőkövesd as they got the licence for playing in the first division and have chances to reach the second place.
