Early life
Currie was born to Don Currie and actress Marie Harmon.[2] She was raised in Encino with three siblings. Her brother is Don Currie Jr. She has an elder sister, actress Sondra Currie, and an identical twin sister, Cherie Currie. Marie was the first twin born and Cherie was the second.[3] Marie is two minutes older than Cherie.
Career
While Cherie was in the Runaways Marie worked at a fast food place. Then she started the Marie Currie band. They never released a record, or received a record deal. The people of Japan loved Cherie so much that they wanted more pictures of her. This time more personal shots. For this photo session Marie and a friend of the twins', Vicki Razer Blade, was included. One of the photos were so popular it was named Valley Chicks.[4] Marie started her career as a singer by singing a duet with Cherie called "Love at First Sight".[5] The song appeared on Cherie's debut album Beauty's Only Skin Deep. Marie toured the States and Japan with Cherie to support Cherie's new record. In 1979 Cherie and Marie released two singles "Messin' with the Boys" and "Since You Been Gone". "Since You Been Gone" charted number 95 on U.S. charts.[6] In 1980 Cherie and Marie released their album, Messin' with the Boys[7] the album received more radio play than Beauty's Only Skin Deep. They released another single that year "This Time". Both the single "This Time" and the album Messin' with the Boys made the top 200 on U.S. charts. Cherie and Marie performed on many TV shows in the 1980s including Sha Na Na and The Merv Griffin Show. Capitol Records wanted Cherie to record a Cherie Currie album not a Cherie & Marie Currie album, so they dropped the girls from the label. In 1984 Cherie and Marie played the singing maids in the The Rosebud Beach Hotel Cherie and Marie sang in the film numerous times. The twins sang, wrote, and produced songs for the film and its soundtrack. That film was Marie's acting debut. In 1991 Marie starred in a commercial for ERREKA water.[8] Currie prformed with her sister's band at the Runaways reunion which included Jackie Fox and Sandy West of the Runaways.[9] In 1997 Marie worked as a mortgage banker for a company her brother, Don, worked for.[10] She worked her way up the ladder and became an accomplished account executive for the same company. She later became a sales and branch development manager for HighTechLending Inc, a company her brother owns and created. In 1997 Cherie and Marie re-released Messin' with the Boys with seven bonus tracks.[7] In 1998 Cherie and Marie released a compilation called Young and Wild.[11] In 1999 Rocket City Records released Cherie's album The 80's Collection which has some songs Cherie and Marie sang in The Rosebud Beach Hotel, other duets by them and a few songs by Cherie.
Later years
Recently Marie has been selling art through her Facebook page and Etsy page both called Marie Currie Creations. On October 22, 2012 cheriecurriebomb, a youtuber, put two songs by Marie Currie on YouTube "Colors of You" and "From Way Up Here" these songs were demo tapes they're not on any record or for sale.[12][13] Marie wrote a poem called "In to the Light". That poem inspired her to write her first book. In 2014 Marie wrote her first book The Narrow Road of Light. It was released on Jan 30, 2014. Her book has been receiving great reviews from fans. in July 2014 Marie Currie her ex-husband, Steve Lukather, singer, Blondie, and model, Josi Kat appeared on the cover of Steel notes Magazine. Marie was July's spotlight artist. She was recognized for selling an impressive amount of art 200 piece.[14] She has recently turned that over 200 into over 400 pieces of art sold.
Personal life
Marie worked as a mortgage banker for the same company her brother Don worked for. Then she moved up to an accomplished account executive for the same company. She later became a sales and branch development manager for HighTechLending Inc, a company her brother owns and created.
Marie married Steve Lukather, lead guitarist and co-vocalist of Toto in February 1981.[15] They met in the studio during the recording of Messin' with the Boys. Steve played lead guitar for her and her sister on that record. They had two kids together Cristina (Tina) Lukather born on May 13, 1985 and Trevor (Trev) Lukather born on May 4, 1987. Trevor (having both parents in the music business) has played on some of his dad's albums and has been touring with his dad in the last couple years.
