Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill (or simply Smokey Bones) is an American casual dining restaurant chain. Owned by Barbeque Integrated Inc. and under the umbrella of Sun Capital Partners, Smokey Bones is headquartered in Orlando, Florida. The first Smokey Bones restaurant opened in Orlando in 1999 under its then owners, Darden Restaurants, Inc.. As of August 2015, Smokey Bones has 66 restaurants in 16 Eastern states.[1]

History

On May 5, 2007, it was announced that Darden Restaurants was selling Smokey Bones.[3] The chain was sold to Barbeque Integrated Inc., in December 2007 for approximately $80 million.

On August 4, 2015, Ryan Esko was named CEO of Smokey Bones.[1]

Remodel

After purchasing Smokey Bones, Sun Capital Partners had been working on re-branding and redesigning the restaurant in an attempt to capture a new customer base.[citation needed] In one noticeable change, the name was revised from Smokey Bones Barbeque and Grill to Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill.[4]

In August 2008, Smokey Bones completed its first restaurant makeover at its Waterford Lakes location in Orlando, Florida. The log cabin decor has been replaced with a more contemporary restaurant setting. The highlights include an extended bar area, high-definition televisions throughout the restaurant/bar and updated employee uniforms. A new menu has also been implemented, emphasizing less on barbeque and more on grilled and smoked flavors.[4]
