The United States presidential election in Alabama, 1960 was held on November 8, 1960. In Alabama, there was no popular vote. Each elector was selected individually instead of as a slate, as was the case in the other 49 states. The Democratic Party had a mixed slate of electors, with the highest vote total going for Kennedy shown as that cast for the highest elector pledged to him (C. G. Allen). The highest vote for a presidential elector was Presidential Elector was Unpledged (Gov. Frank M. Dixon) received 324,050 votes. 5 Electors pledged to vote for John F. Kennedy. All six elected Unpledged Electors cast their vote for Harry F. Byrd.
